Mexican Born Jockey Wins Kentucky Derby & Preakness 2012

Mario Gutierrez (born c. 1987 in Veracruz, Mexico) is a Mexican born Canadian Thoroughbred horse racing jockey who won the 2012Santa Anita,  Kentucky Derbys, and Preakness aboard I’ll Have Another, a colt . The son of a jockey, Gutierrez rode Quarter Horses in his native Veracruz and in Mexico City beginning at age 14. In 2006 he emigrated to Canada where he began riding at Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver, British Columbia, and where he won riding titles in 2007 and 2008.

According to the Washington Post, as a child, Gutierrez saw his father ride match races in Veracruz, which sparked his interest in being a jockey. Having reached the pinnacle of his sport by winning the Derby, he wants to keep going.

The Multi-Cultural Story of Chef Marcus Samuelsson

Acclaimed Chef Marcus Samuelsson has been on the scene for years but his star just seems to be getting brighter and brighter while giving credit to his unique international upbringing in Ethiopia, Sweden and Harlem, NY.

His birth name is Kassahun Tsegie.  After his birth mother died in a tuberculosis epidemic when he was three years old, Kassahun Tsegie and his elder sister, Fantaye,were adopted by Ann Marie and Lennart Samuelsson, a homemaker and a geologist, who lived in Gothenburg, Sweden. The siblings’ names were changed to Marcus and Linda Samuelsson. They also have an adopted sister, Anna Samuelsson. Samuelsson’s biological father, Tsegie, is a priest and father of eight of the chef’s half-siblings; he still lives in the Ethiopian village where Samuelsson was born.

Samuelsson studied at the Culinary Institute in Gothenburg, where he grew up, apprenticed in Switzerland and Austria, and came to the United States in 1991 as an apprentice at Restaurant Aquavit. At 24, Marcus became executive chef of Aquavit, and soon after that became theyoungest ever to receive a three-star restaurant review from The New York Times.

American Central American Actor Maurice Bernard

Maurice Benard (born March 1, 1963) is an American actor. He is known primarily for his iconic portrayal of romantic mobster Michael “Sonny” Corinthos, Jr. on the ABC soap opera, General Hospital, a role he has portrayed since 1993.

Born Mauricio Jose Morales in Martinez, California and growing up in San Francisco, California, Benard is of Salvadorian and Nicaraguan ethnicity. He started his acting career as Nico on the soap opera All My Children from 1987 to 1990. In addition to guest spots on several television series during the early 1990s, Benard also appeared in television movies including the 1991 CBS television movie Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter, in which he portrayed Desi Arnaz.

The Toronto, Canada born actor/rapper Aubrey Drake Graham’s heritage includes a Jewish mother and an African American musician father from Memphis.  He first garnered attention on the extremely popular Canadian teen soap, Degrassi.

Then Drake set the world on fire with his talent as a rapper. In June 2009, Drake signed a recording contract with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment.In November 2009, Lil Wayne released a statement announcing that Drake’s first studio album, Thank Me Later, had been completed. WASHINGTON (AP) – Selena is one of the Latin Music Legends being honored with news stamps from the U.S. Postal Service in 2011.

Selena, Carlos Gardel, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and Carmen Miranda stamps go in sale in March 2011.

Two of America’s favorite spacemen – the cool-headed Mercury astronaut Alan Shepard and the animated Buzz Lightyear of “Toy Story” fame – join movie stars, musicians and artists being honored in 2011 with stamps from the U.S. Postal Service.  READ MORE

J.R. Martinez American Hero Dances With the Stars

According to People Magazine Country Music star LeAnn Rimes and actor Eddie Cibrian included foods which celebrated both of their heritages. 

The southern belle, Rimes had fried Macoroni Cheese balls on the menu.

Although, reared in California’s San Fernando Valley, both of Cibrian’s parents are of Cuban descent so he had Black beans and Plantains on the menu.

The beautiful Frieda Pinto made quite an impression when the world laid eyes on her in Slumdog Millionaire, for which she won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.   Although she has been constantly working, the newest installment of Planet of the Apes may help to propel her stardom.  She was already in the public eye in her homeland of India hosting a travel show in English.

Wikipedia- Freida Pinto was born on 18 October 1984 to a Mangalorean Catholic family in Mumbai.  Her mother, Sylvia, is a principal of St John’s Universal High School (Goregaon), and her father, Frederick, is a senior branch manager at the Bank of Baroda. Her older sister Sharon is an associate producer for the NDTV news channel.  Pinto dreamed of becoming an actress since she was five years old.

According to Mid-day.com, “I love Italian cuisine. My palate is pleased by seafood risotto with porcini mushrooms. Besides that I love my Manglorean seafood dishes and the sukha chicken.”   Her favorite sweets, “ Rasmalai… yummy!
