National Cholesterol Education Month: Top 5 Foods to Lower Your Cholesterol Level Featured

Most of us do not know our cholesterol levels. September marks National Cholesterol Education month so if you don’t know your blood cholesterol level, now is a perfect time to find out and take the necessary steps to lower it. Cholesterol is a fatty chemical which is an important part of the outer lining (membrane) of cells in the body. It can be found mainly in foods that come from animals.

What you eat and how quickly your body makes bad cholesterol, “LDL”, (which are Lipoproteins that are a combination of lipids (fats) and proteins) determines your blood cholesterol level. Our bodies make all the cholesterol it needs, and it is not necessary to take in any additional cholesterol from the foods you eat. If you have high cholesterol, you may be at risk for heart disease.

There are many factors that affect your blood cholesterol level including, your age and sex, your weight, heredity, what you eat, physical activity/exercise, alcohol and stress.

  1. I don’t quite agree with you when it comes to eating food with low-cholesterol. Recent research points out that if cholesterol is deprived from our diet then our liver will produce more cholesterol. Why? Because our body needs cholesterol. Bad guy here is not the cholesterol, but sugar. Check out all low-fat products and you’ll notice that they have added glucose (sugar) in them. What does that cause – high cholesterol level. And what happens if you cut down sugar and high GI carbohydrates – low cholesterol levels. Check out this book Interesting book!
