Juanes -First Spanish Performance at Thanksgiving Parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a tradition watched by millions of Americans every year. In its 80th year in existence something different happened. This year Colombian superstar Juanes became the first ever person to perform in Spanish at the parade in support of his upcoming album P.A.R.C.E.

Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez (born August 9, 1972), better known as Juanes (for the contraction of his first and second name) is a Colombian musician who was a member of heavy metal band Ekhymosis and is now a solo artist. In 2000, his solo debut album Fíjate Bien won three Latin Grammy Awards. Juanes has sold more than 12 million albums. He has won seventeen Latin Grammys, more than any other artist, and one Grammy Award. Juanes received the BMI President’s Award at the 2010 BMI Latin Awards. Juanes is also known for his humanitarian work, especially with aid for Colombian victims of anti-personnel mines. READ MORE

The Sweet Potato is a well loved in many cultures. Sweet potatoes very early became popular in the islands of the Pacific Ocean, spreading from Polynesia to Japan and the Philippines. One reason is that they were a reliable crop in cases of crop failure of other staple foods due to typhoon flooding. They are featured in many favorite dishes in Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, and other island nations. Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and some other Asian countries are also large sweet potato growers. Uganda (the third largest grower after Indonesia), Rwanda, and some other African countries also grow a large crop which is an important part of their peoples’ diets. North and South America, the original home of the sweet potato, together grow less than three percent of the world’s supply
