Christmas in Puerto Rico is a lengthy affair. The holiday begins in early December(for some right after Thanksgiving) and sometimes it doesn’t end until mid January. Known as Las Navidades, the celebration combines Catholicism with traditional Puerto Rican culture.
In many ways a Puerto Rican Christmas is much like its North American counterpart. Festive decorations including lights, poinsettias, Christmas trees and scenes of the Nativity, (El Nacimiento) adorn many homes.
