Filipino Adobo Recipe

In Filipino cuisine, adobo refers to a common cooking process indigenous to the Philippines. When the Spanish invaded the Philippines in the late 16th century through Mexico City, they found an indigenous cooking process that involved stewing with vinegar. They referred to this method as “adobo”. Over time, dishes prepared in this manner came to be known by this name as well.

Adobo is the most popular Filipino dish enjoyed by all classes. Adobo is typically served with steamed white rice.

Soft Foods Diet

Soft foods as the name suggests are foods that are soft in texture, making them easy to chew and

swallow. Besides being soft in texture, the soft food umbrella also entails foods that are not high in fiber content and also those that conduce to gas. Mostly people with chewing and swallowing problems or those who have just undergone a surgery will need to be on a soft food diet. Let’s have a look at the soft diet food list to get a greater understanding of which are the foods that come under this soft food category.

A List of Soft Foods

The soft diet food list will vary slightly depending on the reason for resorting to the same. For example, if a person has just had an oral surgery, he or she cannot chew and swallow hard foods. However, he can very well digest all foods. Thus, pureed and mashed foods come in his list of soft foods after tooth extraction. On the other hand, for a person who has just had a gastritis bypass, the kinds of foods his or her stomach can tolerate will be different. The gradual progression from a completely pure liquid diet to a soft food diet and then to a general diet is to be made. Fried foods and spicy or highly seasoned foods are also not good for post-operative or immobile patients. Moreover, most raw foods, breads and cereals are eliminated from their diet as well. Thus, depending on one’s condition the list will vary. Let’s have a look at the general soft diet food list.  (READ MORE)

Top 10 Food Aphrodisiacs

Yes, oysters are on the list but there are some surprising foods which seem to stimulate love.  The food you consume can have a direct impact on your sex life, affecting your hormones, brain chemistry and energy and stress levels. Some foods have psychoactive properties, others arouse because they are psychologically suggestive, and some can actually increase blood flow to the genitals. And if it does not have all that aphrodisiac effect, at least it’s healthy and it will do you good!

Asparagus-An English herbalist from the 17th century, Nicholas Culpepper, wrote that asparagus “stirs up lust in man and woman.” In 19th century France, bridegrooms were served three courses of the sexy spears at their prenuptial dinners. Apparently for a good reason: asparagus is a great source of potassium, fiber, vitamin B6, vitamins A and C, and thiamin and folic acid. The latter is said to boost histamine production necessary for the ability to reach orgasm in both sexes.

Almonds-Through antiquity, almonds were regarded as fertility symbols. The aroma of almond supposedly arouses passion in females — or so thought the poets and scribes. The scientists say that almonds provide high doses of vitamin E, magnesium and even fiber. Therefore, there seems to be something in the almond myths after all.

Hispanic population growth influencing eating trends in U.S.

The U.S. Census indicates that the Hispanic population is expected to grow 34 percent from 2010 to 2020. Foodservice market research company NPD Group has found that this growth is beginning to influence national consumption patterns.

One of the categories where Hispanics are influencing consumption patterns is at breakfast, according to NPD’s NET (National Eating Trends) Hispanic, which is a year-long study that captures the in-home and away-from-home food and beverage consumption habits of Hispanics in the U.S. by level of acculturation.

For example, NET Hispanic reports that while non-Hispanics include non-toasted bread in 2 percent of their breakfast meals, 12 percent of Hispanics’ breakfasts include non-toasted bread. Throughout the last decade, typical consumers decreased the number of times they include non-toasted bread with their breakfasts. (READ MORE)
