Huntington Beach, CA: Fire Pit fun
One of the most fun and distinguishing things about Huntington Beach are the fire pits. Even if you don’t get there in time to lay claim to a pit. It is still quite a spectacle to behold for onlookers at night.
Huntington State Beach is very popular with families. More than 600 fire rings are available on the city and state beaches for nightly bonfires, a favorite activity among Huntington Beach locals.
Outer Banks, NC: Kill Devil’s Frozen Custard and Boardwalk Fries
Just minutes from the beach on a hot day is a solution to cool you off. Everyday you will find a new flavor on the menu for frozen custards at Kill Devil’s Frozen Custard and Boardwalk fries. On this hot summer day, my mother and I tried the Black Raspberry and the Vanilla. The third listed flavor of the day was chocolate. Custard is creamier and smoother than ice cream. The texture is the first thing we noticed and both of the our frozen custards were tasty. On another given day you may find flavor such as coconut, pistachio or coffee. There is different flavor of the day everyday and the classic standby flavors of the vanilla and chocolate. Banana splits Sundaes are big menu items every day. Some of the sundaes include the sea turtle boasting of the best hot fudge in the world, wicked waffle sundae, and the wicked waffle which ice served between two hot waffles with fudge and real whipped cream.
But there is so much more including barbecue sandwiches, fries and we are told by locals the burgers are great.

Baltimore, MD: Review of Nick’s Fish House & Grill
Let me begin with, “What a pleasure.” A friend of mine has been suggesting Nick’s Fish House & Grill to me for a review by MCCN for years. Well, finally I made it to Baltimore and I have to recommend this place strongly. It is a great place for friends to get together and a romantic place for couples. Nick’s is located right along a pier and you have a gorgeous view. Moreover, the food does not disappoint.
We started with an order of friend green tomatoes which were topped with lump crabmeat. It was delicious. Although, I did think the coating could have more flavor like salt or even a slightly spicy seasoning but it was still good. Then I ordered clams on the half shell while my friend ordered the item which keeps her coming back called the crab pretzel. I was fortunate to sample some of her dish and it was unique and definitely a winner in the taste department.
My clams where accompanied with cocktail sauce and horseradish on the side. You can also ordered classic steamed crabs coated in old bay seasoning. We also ordered white sangria but they were a bit heavy on the ice.

Hendersonville, NV: Review of Sunrise Cafe (near Vegas)
If you are looking to get off the strip of Vegas then take a 15 minute drive to Hendersonville to Sunrise Cafe. By the time 8AM rolls around it starts getting crowded. You will find a wide variety of choices from turkey sausage to pork from hash brown to eggs, pancakes and French Toast. The restaurant is spacious with outdoor seating which quickly gets filled during the spring months. The restaurant also serves lunch.
I ordered the classic breakfast which consisted of two large sausage patties, scrambled eggs, delicious hash browns and my choice of toast(sourdough, wheat, white). I enjoyed my meal. It was quite hardy yet it didn’t feel or taste heavy.
One can also find items such as burgers, salads, omlettes plus bagels and lox. There is even a small section on the menu called the lighter side of guilt. And for those not worried about feeling guilty, look for the old fashion soda and candy section in the restaurant.

Film and Foodie Review: BELLE
BELLE is inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), the illegitimate mixed race daughter of Admiral Sir John Lindsay (Matthew Goode) and enslaved African woman known as Maria Belle. . Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson) and his wife (Emily Watson), Belle’s lineage affords her certain privileges, yet her color prevents her from the traditions of noble social standing. To take things at surface value just will not do. It is as if God takes the imperfect situation of illegitimacy and works it for the overall good.
Dido grows up alongside a first cousin of the same at who was probably so isolated and lonely the only thing she could do would be to welcome and love Dido. In the film we watch the bond and the timing for finding a suitor. It seems Dido’s great uncle and aunt never envisioned she would find husband. The didn’t want her to marry down in social standing and they never thought she could marry up.
The story of Dido Belle goes beyond the tragic mulatto but how the influence of being the niece of the Lord Chief Justice may have played a significant factor in helping to build the road to end slavery.
And yes, there is an enchanting romance in the story too. No Spoiler, just go see the film to see how the love story plays out.
