Okay, the 2019 nominations proved to be a great day for people of color. Let’s begin with the admittedly long overdue Oscar nomination for best director for Spike Lee. What a delight to watch 61-year-old Lee, scream like a kid when he heard his name announced. And his movie Black Klansman garnered five more nominations. But Oscar love was spread to Roma with 10 nominations, a foreign language film in black and white. Black Panther, the first comic book based movies to earn Oscar recognition earned seven Oscar nominations. And hold on, another superhero crawled in for some love, Miles Morales in the animated category for Spiderman- Into the Spiderverse.
