Say What? Backlash and Division – Goya, Trump, the Boycott and Latino Community

When Goya CEO praised Donald Trump, a firestorm of backlash and division erupted in the Latino community. It’s a sensitive topic for a number of reasons. It’s the ongoing debate of freedom of speech. Why is praising the president divisive? Overwhelming, Trump is considered a racist, divisive and indifferent to not only Latinos but people of color.
A poll conducted by the polling firm Latino Decisions, found only about one-in-five Latinos (21 percent) said they would probably or definitely vote for Trump, with only 13 percent saying they “definitely” would. An overwhelming majority —almost eight-in-ten (78 percent)—said they are strongly or somewhat “frustrated with how Trump and his allies treat immigrants and Latinos” and are worried thing will get worse.

Long ago, underground caves created the ideal environment for aging cheese. … Cave and cellar-aged cheeses ripen in environments naturally more humid and develop rinds on their own, resulting in a dry, moldy crust, and flavorful interiors.
- Cheddar. Cheese maturing in the caves at Cheddar Gorge.
- Gruyere. A maturation of Gruyère cheese, Gruyères, Switzerland.
- Manchego. Manchego cheese.
- Grana Padano. A storehouse of Italian cheese Grana Padano.
Red, White and Blue Potato Salad Recipe
I’ve never liked potato salad mainly because I am not a big fan of mayo. However, one day while at the deli counter of the supermarket, Vons in California I was offered a sample. I initially refused with my canned response but a persuasive deli counter worker convinced me there was something different to this potato salad. Once, I tried it best I could tell there was no mayo. Blue Cheese starred as a main attraction among savory red potatoes complimented with bacon. Now depending on the recipe the sour cream or a white sauce is used. I use sour cream. 7 diced medium red potatoes
1/4 cup of red onions
1/4 cup of chives
1/4 cup of parsley
1 cup of Blue Cheese
1 cup of Sour Cream
Salt and Pepper to taste
Add broken pieces of bacon to taste
Directions
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Chill and serve.
Serves about 4 to 6 people.

If you’ve ever walked through the streets of Los Angeles late at night, you may have been lucky enough to happen upon a street vendor selling bacon-wrapped hot dogs piled high with caramelized onions, sautéed peppers, pico de gallo, avocado, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. INGREDIENTS
FOR THE HOT DOGS:
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 bacon strips
- 4 jalapeños, stemmed, halved lengthwise and seeds removed (optional)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for drizzling (if needed)
- 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
- ½ small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- ½ small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- Kosher salt
- 8 hot dog buns
- Ketchup, yellow mustard and mayonnaise, for serving
