Healing from an injury can take weeks or even months (healing time can vary from person to person), but you can dramatically accelerate the healing process by getting adequate nutrition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Healing is largely dependent on blood supply, and the stronger the blood supply, the faster you can heal because blood supplies the injured area with important oxygen and nutrients which help the injury heal.

Certain foods can promote inflammation within the body, while others have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Avoid inflammation-promoting foods such as fried foods, processed white flour, eggplant, cayenne, tomatoes,potatoes, and hot peppers, and eat more foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids.

Be sure to drink plenty of fresh juices made from fresh, organic, raw veggies, because raw veggies are high in important enzymes and vitamins that can speed up the healing process.

Garlic, radishes, and beets are especially helpful. You can also mix in a bit of fresh ginger; ginger has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and helps reduce pain and soreness.

To create an optimal healing environment and get back on your feet quicker, be sure to eat 8-10 servings of fruit and vegetables daily.

Berry Important Info: How to Keep Berries Fresh

The key to preventing moldy berries? Vinegar! When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider probably work best) and ten parts water. Dump the berries into the mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want, (though the mixture is so diluted I find you can’t taste the vinegar,) and pop in the fridge.

The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft.

Healthier School Lunches Beginning Fall 2012

The government is releasing new nutrition standards for school meals. This is going to be a dramatic change. The changes are designed to improve the health of nearly 32 million children who eat lunch at school every day. One third of children in the USA are over weight or obese.

First lady Michelle Obama is making sure that we establish a healthier foodprogram at school for fall this year. One of the top issues is making sure that each student has at least one cup of vegetables and fruits. Overall, kids consume about 30% to 50% of their calories while at school and establish maximum calories and sodium limits for meal. Hispanics With Diabetes Urged to Get Yearly Foot Care

Bio-Medicine.org-Hispanics are the focus of a campaign to promote foot care among people with diabetes, says the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).Hispanics are 66 percent more likely than whites to be diagnosed with diabetes, which can result in foot ulcers and lower limb amputations. Leading causes of type 2 diabetes include poor diet, lack of exercise and genetics, risk factors that are especially high among Hispanics, according to the association.

The “Knock Your Socks Off” campaign in November coincides with Diabetes Awareness Month and encourages people with diabetes to get an annual foot exam, which can reduce the risk of amputation by 45 percent to 85 percent. (READ MORE)

Coconut water is the clear liquid inside young coconuts (fruits of the coconut palm). As the fruit matures, the coconut water is gradually replaced by the coconut meat and air. A very young coconut has very little meat; the meat it does have is very tender, almost a gel. Coconut water has long been a popular drink in the tropics, especially in Southeast Asia, Pacific Islands such as Hawaii, and the Caribbean, where it is available fresh, canned, or bottled. 

Coconuts for drinking are carefully packaged and sold in many places. These are typically Asian coconuts whose outer green husk has been removed, and the remainder wrapped in plastic. In Central America, particularly in Costa Rica and Panama, they are found and sold in strategic highway stops and on beaches. Coconuts are cut in front of customers to ensure the coconut water’s freshness. Coconut water can also be found in ordinary cans, tetra paks, or plastic bottles (sometimes with coconut pulp or coconut jelly included). It is also being marketed as a natural sports drink because of its high potassium and mineral content.

There have been cases where coconut water has been used as an intravenous hydration fluid in some developing countries where medical saline was unavailable.

Sports drinks are a big business in America. Last year Americans spent $5.4 billion on sports drinks. Are they a gimmick or something you need? People feel better drinking what their favorite major athletes drink. Sports drinks have benefits in some situations, but are not the best choice for most people. Water is best for hydrating your body.

Keeping your body hydrated while exercising is the most important reason to drink fluids. If your hydration levels fall 10%, you will see a decrease in performance. If it falls more, you will see significant drop in performance levels. Water is the best fluid to keep you hydrated for most people doing most exercises.
